Cape Egmont and the peak of Mount Taranaki, occuping the middle third of the image and rendered in purple tones, are silhouetted against a peach coloured sky. The sea, fading from blue grey on the left into near white on the right, occupies the bottom third of the image. Colour is rendered in gradations rather than blocks.
