This is my family. My father, John Douglas Robertson was generally known as Robbie, especially to customers and staff at the Taranaki Daily News, where he worked in the circulation department from about 1930 to 1959. He was from Auckland, the son of Union Steamship Co. Captain John Robertson who sailed the coastal route from Onehunga to Dundin. His wife was a Partington whose uncle built the Partington mill in Auckland. My mother, Bertha Valeria Gardiner was from Eltham. They were married in 1935. She was known to most people as Girlie. I was born 22 April 1938, educated at Vogeltown and West End primary schools and New Plymouth Boys High School. My sister Elizabeth Elsie (always known as Beth) was born 13 December 1940 and attended the same primary schools and N.P. Girls High School. She died in Moeraki in 2008, shortly after her husband Andrew Pratt. Both had taught at New Plymouth schools in 1969; Andrew at Spotswood College and Beth at N.P.G.H.S. My son Leith is an electrical engineer, living in New Plymouth and is known among go-karting people and Astronomical society members, especially for his photography. He is currently President of the N.P. Astronomical Society.
