Gauge, Plough

Description
A plough gauge which has a foot that tapers at one end and a cutting knife attached by a set screw to the base. It has a wooden handle and a graduated stem which extends from the left of the base. An adjustable fence assembly is attached to this stem by a wingnut. Part of the fence and the handle attachment is brass.

This plough gauge was used by Robert Graham, who owned a boot repair and saddlery shop in Queen Street, Waitara. Leatherworkers use plough gauges to cut strips of leather for reins and straps.
