Oral history recording. Arapata Albert (Alby) Tamati (1937-2016) describes learning to carve and the panel he created for the office of Synfuel's administration building at Motunui. He mentions Ngapuhi carver Hone Heke and outlines Rotorua and Taranaki styles of carving. Alby tells the story depicted in his Synfuel panel and the rata symbolism. He discusses timber stores, sources of inspiration and using his work to convey a political statement.
