Description
A five inch proportional divider. "PLANS STANLEY/SOLIDS/ G.T TURNSTILE LONDON" is engraved on one side with a number of measured graduations on one side. "Lineal SOLIDS/LINES" is engraved on the other side along with a number of graduations.

This divider was used by Follett Carrington (1862-1948), a notable Taranaki surveyor, nephew of Frederick and Wellington Carrington, and son of Octavius Carrington. He began his career as a survey cadet in the Taranaki Provincial Lands Department and was employed by the West Coast Commission during the early 1880s. He went on to work in Wellington and Hawke's Bay and established a glowing professional reputation before returning to work in New Plymouth. Follett Carrington retired in 1918.
