Description
A simple metal divider with a point at the end of both arms. "STANLEY" is engraved in small letters near the hinge on one arm and " F.C " is stamped on the other arm.

These
dividers
were
used
by
Follett
Carrington
(1862-1948),
a
notable
Taranaki
surveyor,
nephew
of
Frederick
and
Wellington
Carrington,
and
son
of
Octavius
Carrington.
He
began
his
career
as
a
survey
cadet
in
the
Taranaki
Provincial
Lands
Department
and
was
employed
by
the
West
Coast
Commission
during
the
early
1880s.
He
went
on
to
work
in
Wellington
and
Hawke's
Bay
and
established
a
glowing
professional
reputation
before
returning
to
work
in
New
Plymouth.
Follett
Carrington
retired
in
1918.
