Description
A rectangular sketching protractor. The protractor is divided into quarters and features circular markings radiating out from a central hole. There is a larger hole punched near one corner of the protractor.

This protractor was used by Follett Carrington (1862-1948), a notable Taranaki surveyor, nephew of Frederick and Wellington Carrington, and son of Octavius Carrington. He began his career as a survey cadet in the Taranaki Provincial Lands Department and was employed by the West Coast Commission during the early 1880s. He went on to work in Wellington and Hawke's Bay and established a glowing professional reputation before returning to work in New Plymouth. Follett Carrington retired in 1918.
