North Taranaki Environment Protection Association

Description
Established in December 1980, the aims of the association were to investigate evaluate and comment on the foreshore relative to the proposed breakwater and dredging of the reefs in the North Taranaki area, the pollution of the sea from a propsed long sea outfall, the effects of these activities on the environment, the effects of land use in relation to horticulture and the protection of archaeological sites within the area. The association also aimed to preserve the public right of free access to the foreshore as a public reserve, to investigate changes in zoning through the Town and Country Planning Act. Organize meetings, lectures, publications and other educational activities to inform and educate the Public.
