Shako

Production date
1850s
Description
An Albert Pattern British Regimental shako. The shako is navy blue, wool-covered, and hard peaked with a low, narrow front crown and a longer back brim which slightly flairs upward. There is a black band around the base of the crown and a leather sweatband on the inside. The inside is not lined but has the manufacturer's is label printed on it. The label however, is illegible and all that can be deciphered is that it was made in Wellington, New Zealand.
