In 1882, the Taranaki Mounted Rifles adopted an impressive blue and white uniform of the British Army's lancer regiments, which included this spiked helmet. The uniform may have been used until 1911 when the unit changed to the khaki field dress that was becoming increasingly popular amongst military units.
