Description
An unframed botanical work of oil on canvas. Depicts a large plant that extends vertically up the canvas. It has large leaves that are striped through with pale and darker shades of green. Its flowers are a distinctive red colour and peppered across the entire plant. The background is coloured like a sunset, with soft oranges, pinks and yellows.
Fanny has identified the plant as either Korari or Harakeke, both New Zealand flaxes. She has also written "Aohenga", and it is possible she meant aohanga which is a variety of Harakeke flax with white stripes along their pale green leaves. It has alternatively been identified as Phormium Williamsii variegated, an evergreen perennial distinctive for its strap-shaped leaves and tubular flowers that flower in summer.
