This telescope was the private telescope of Francis Morshead. Mr Morshead was a foundation member of the New Plymouth Astronomical Society and the director of the New Plymouth observatory from 1925-1958.He was thrilled to discover what he thought was a previously unknown comet in 1923. Unfortunately a Russian astronomer had spotted the same comet and named it just weeks before.
