Kelly, Leonora (Nora)

Description
Born in 1870, Leonora (Nora) Kelly was educated at Lepperton and New Plymouth, Nora went to Timaru to train as a nurse in 1903. Working at Dunedin Hospital and Christchurch, she returned to Taranaki to work as a backblocks nurse based at Uruti in 1912 and served with the Royal New Zealand Army Nursing Service during World War One. On returning to New Zealand was matron of Patea Hospital.
The collection contains letters written by 'Aunt Nora' to family members while serving on the hospital ship 'Maheno'. February - April 1916. Includes a transcript of the letters created by Joan Harris.
