Description
A commercial Snider Mark III patent .577 calibre carbine with a brass trigger guard and nose cap. A crown and " 1872 " is marked on the lock plate . " W.H. Tisdall 47 Whittall St Birmingham " is marked on the lock plate. " W.H. Hazard, Auckland " is marked on the stock and there is a saddle ring on one side of it.

This carbine was a civilian manufactured weapon, it was not designed to take a bayonet. It would have been issued to mounted police and then after it was used police would have handed it back to the government stores board who would have given it to Hazards to sell on.
