Description
Oral history recording. Horace Lesley (Les) Woolcott (1925-1995) talks about his childhood in an orphanage in Nottingham, England. After three years in the army Les emigrated to New Zealand on the ship Captain Cook. He arrived in Wellington and worked for De Havilland Aircraft Company and on the wharves before taking jobs on power stations along the Waikato River. He moved to New Plymouth in the 1950s and attended teacher's training college then taught metalwork and drama at Hawera Intermediate School.
