Catherine Garland Riemenschneider (nee Woon)

Description
Copy photograph of a studio portrait of Catherine Garland Riemenschneider (nee Woon), wife of the Reverend Johann Friedrich Riemenschneider, aged approximately 26 years old. She is seated at a table covered with a patterned table cloth. She is wearing a long sleeved gown, ornamental brooch at the throat, and hair fastened at the nape of her neck. The studio props in the photograph appear to be the same as those featured in the ambrotype portrait of her husband, Johann Friedrich Riemenschneider (A82.030). Peter Oettli's book "God's Messenger: J. F. Riemenschneider and Racial Conflict in 19th Century New Zealand" makes reference to Riemenschneider and his wife getting their photographs taken in New Plymouth in the summer of 1859. It seems likely this photograph is a copy of the original ambrotype portrait taken at the same time as Reverend Riemenschneider's ambrotype, which may have been taken by Hartley Webster.
