Description
Excellent specimen. Fully carved parewahawaha (head) with four paua shell eyes. The surface patterns on the tongue, head and brow are notched with tuara kuri. These notches are lowered beneath the haehae lines with a mixture of kokowai and earth evident within the cuts. The lips and brow design are also interspersed with piko rauru mid way across. The handle of the taiaha shows cracks all the way up to the blade section. Interestingly, the handle has a distinctive bow about 170mm up from the brow of the head. The top of the blade also has a rounded tip.
