A lithograph from an engraving by Grainger, c.1800 - 1850. Possibly modelled on an original plate (XVIII) by Sydney Parkinson, c.1773. Caption reads "War Canoe of the New Zealanders in the South Pacific Ocean". Depicts a large Maori waka at sea. This waka has intricate spiral shaped carving of the bow and stern, both of which are adorned with feathers. Five men stand whilst approximately 50 men are seated double abreast and are paddling. Cliffs are visible in the background and a small island to the right of these landforms. A smaller craft with sail is visible to the right of this island.
