Production date
Circa 1855-1860s
Description
Hand tinted ambrotype portrait of an unidentified woman. She is seated and has her hands clasped in her lap. She is holding a piece of fabric, possibly a handkerchief. She wears a long gown with a lace collar and a brooch at her throat. Her hair is parted in the middle and falls in ringlets at the side of her face. She wears a lace head piece. Gold hand tinting is apparent on the buttons of her gown, cameo and wedding band. Pink hand tinting has been added to her hands, cheeks and head piece. The portrait is contained in a plain gold metal matt with embossed metal trim inside a maroon leather case with velvet edging. The lid of the case is missing. Double clasps are mounted on the left hand side of the case base.
