Ensemble

Description
A matching blue silk bodice and skirt ensemble. Both pieces are backed with a cream-coloured linen. The bodice is edged with black braiding, jet beads and ball-tassel trim. The balls are also along the front opening and used as buttons. There is a small tail on the back and the sleeves are long and bell shaped. The inside is boned and has a waistbelt tacked to the back and sides.The back has princess seams. The skirt is gathered at the waistband and is slightly longer at the back. This dress belonged to Dora McDonald daughter of John McDonald, Eltham's first store proprietor. He also held the title of Postmaster of the district. Dora McDonald married Fred Reardon and lived most of her life in Eltham.
