Probably James Hawkins, 'Inspector Permanent Ways New Zealand Railways' who died in Hawera on 18 June 1902, age 57. He was a member of the Hawera Lodge and there is a newspaper notice for lodge members to attend his funeral. (not to be confused with James Hawkins, the hotel proprietor, also in the district at that time)
