Tongs

Description
A pair of half round type metalworking tongs with long, straight handles. The jaws of the tongs have a groove running down their inside centre and they appear to have been painted black. Some illegible marks are engraved on one of the handles. One of the marks may read " HELLER. "

This ladle was used by Max Oliver Butcher in his coachbuilding business on Gill Street in the early-mid 1900s. Max came to New Zealand after some time spent in Canada. He was originally from England.
