Description
An illuminated address presented "To The Honorable John Bryce M.H.R. from the inhabitants of the Provincial District of Taranaki' to welcome him back to the colony and express their support and admiration for his concern for the safety and welfare of the settlers, his conduct of the Native Affairs Department and his humane and just treatment of the Maori. Signed by the Mayor of New Plymouth, James Paul and Councillors, the Town Clerk and endorsed by over 500 other residents of the district. Dated New Plymouth May 1886."
Created and illuminated by W.F. Gordon. John Bryce was the Native Minister in charge when 1600 troops invaded the settlement of Parihaka in November 1881.
