Bodice

Production date
Circa 1900
Description
A cream-coloured waist-length bodice with two front pleats trimmed with appliquer floral lace. The bodice is shaped with darts and stiffened with thirteen bones on the inside. The sleeves are very lavish with rows of tucked silk chiffon on top of a net base from the shoulder to the elbow. Below that, there are long pieces of full and flowing chiffon. Where the two differently applied chiffons meet at the elbow there are overlapping layers of appliquer flowers. There is a low neckline on the garment, a waistband, two decorative buttons on the back of the bodice waistband and three beaded floral pieces attached at the back neckline. A row of hook and eye tape fastens the open back.
