Description
The Devon Street and Brougham Street intersection (New Plymouth) in flood, 1935. Cars and public transport including a New Plymouth Tramways tram shown manoeuvring in flood waters. Buildings depicted include the National Bank of New Zealand, McGruers, Hallenstein Bros Ltd, and CC Wards.
Water from the Huatoki River, Mangaotuku Stream, and rising spring tide contributed to flooding of central New Plymouth. The flood area extended from central Devon Street down Brougham Street to the railway shunting yards.
