Description
The papers consist in the main part of letters to Miss Ethel J. Florance from Rev. William Colenso, and one from John Anderson on behalf of Rev. Colenso. Dated 27 January 1899, Anderson's letter refers to the state of Colenso's health shortly before he died.
There are five letters, dated 18 November 1893, 10 June 1897, 21 November 1897, 13 March 1898 and 20 January 1899 (photocopy) from Rev. Colenso to Miss Florance while she was at school in St Albans in Christchurch and at home in Waitangi, Chatham Islands.
The letters dated 21 November 1897 and 13 March 1898 have manuscript notes by Miss Florance added to them, and one letter (20 January 1899) is a photostat copy. (There is also a typewritten copy).
There is a small pressed spray of acacia and a short undated note referring to it which may have been included in one of the letters.
An undated newspaper clipping refers to an early printing press and its possible connection to Colenso.
Four other clippings (25.11.1959, 25.6.1966, 24.12.1949 - 2 copies) refer to descendants of William Colenso.
