Houston, John

Production date
1930-1939
Description
Notes created by John Houston, who for more than thirty years wrote on many aspects of Maori history. They include a four-page dossier on Ratana, which was probably written in 1936. John Houston accuses Ratana of making heavy exactions from his adherents and of preaching doctrines adverse to the white people. Other papers include notes made in 1933 on a redoubt used at the time of the Parihaka incident and notes made in 1936 on a story about a taniwha. Most of the other items are brief notes made on single pieces of paper. Most of the items are undated, but those which are dated have dates in the 1930s.
