Description
Oral history. Alister was born in Assam, India in 1928 and describes his schooling experiences in India. In 1936 his family moved to England where he stayed during his childhood, eventually training at Plumpton Agricultural College in Sussex. After working in farming in England he decided to emigrate to New Zealand to continue farming. He arrived on the Atlantis in Wellington on 5th June 1951. Alister describes his journey from Wellington up to Hawera and his experiences as a new immigrant. His parents and younger sister came out in June 1953. After marrying he lived in Stratford with his family eventually working in market gardening for Stratford Borough Council and then for Taranaki Polytechnic tutoring in Horticulture. He has been involved with the Campervan Association and the New Zealand Football Association.
