Oral history. Allen Keith Lance Payne was born in Stratford in 1932. In this interview, Keith recounts his experiences working with the Transport Department. He also speaks of his education and early life and post school work. In 1957, Payne joined the Whangarei Transport Dept. (Ministry of Transport). He describes: life as a traffic officer in Northland, duties at Maungatoroto, Dargaville, court prosecutions, driving licenses and a bus accident during the Royal visit 1963. In 1973, Payne was promoted and transferred to Taranaki. He discusses changes in legislation and conditions, court procedures, pre trafic light days, police amalgamation, health and retirement
