Description
Oral history. (Allan) Ross Beagle was born in Frankton Junction in 1926. He speaks of his extensive experience working in the dairy industry. This includes details of his first job at Matiere in 1948/9, describes factory, machinery etc. He also discusses: farming in King Country. positions in Ohura factory, staff houses, typical Matiere factory day, pay and union officials, transport in the Ohura Valley, Matiere staff conditions and wearing apparel, butter rationing, pounding machine. He later moved to Tikorangi, where Bruce Orchard taught him how to make casein. Other items discussed are: the Waikato Winter Show, Milk tankers, amalgamations, farm vats, changes at Tikorangi, amalgamation, factory clothing. After Waitoetoe closed, he moved to Cambridge, was active in the Dairy Workers Union, then back to Moanui and new technology.
