Oral history. Margaret Irene McCarthy (nee Stevens) was born in Whangarei in 1922. She began her nurse's training near Dargaville at the age of 18. McCarthy talks of the hospital, nursing duties, routines, leisure and entertainment. Margaret moved to Hawera in the last year of her training. She describes the Hawera hospital. She went to Wanganui for maternity training and talks of the changes within nursing.
