Oral history. Peter James Alty was born in Christchurch in 1938. In this interview, he talks of his family and childhood in Christchurch, schooling, sports involvement and describes joining the police force. Alty discusses various incidents during his police career, in particular ships and coastal shipping. Peter speaks of his father who was also a policeman. Alty talks of his children wanting to be in the police force. He also remembers his mother, how he met his future wife Anne and coming to New Plymouth from Wellington in 1985 to start farming on Bishop Road.
