Garland William Woon, describes an overland journey from Auckland to Waimate to visit his parents who were stationed there as missionaries. He was 18 years old at the time of the journey. He describes the journey and a short stay with the Whiteley family at Kawhia. The account was later published (1926) in the Taranaki Herald under the title A reminiscence of 1849; Overland from Auckland to Taranaki; Adventurous Boy's Journey by G W W.
The collection consists of two full transcripts of the account plus a few extra sheets. Also clippings from the Taranaki Herald in which the story was published in three parts.
