Description
Oral history recording. Tom was born in Horwick, England, in 1911. He describes his early life in England in a mining community and his emigration to New Zealand in 1929 on the ship M. V. Rangitiki, the emigration having been organised by The Church of England. He started his working life on a farm near Hawera, silage making, dairy farming and sheep shearing. Later Tom worked as a Stock Clerk at the farmers Co-op in Hawera. After serving in the Second World War where he was a POW he returned to New Zealand, married and describes his life in farming.
