Stratford Hospital was opened on February 22, 1907and closed February 23, 1998. The reunion was held over the weekend on 14 - 15 March 1998. The reunion was attended by nearly 400 people, who travelled to Stratford from as far away as Saudi Arabia, Australia and throughout New Zealand.

Interview with Rosalie Styles, 18 March 1998. Began nursing at Napier Hospital 1939 then to Whangarei. General, Maternity Nurse and Midwife. Moved to Wanganui and worked as night sister at Jessie Hope Gibbons Womens Hospital. Worked with Dr. Doris Gordon at Mairie during the 1950's.In the 1960's worked in Womens Ward at Stratford, the maternity hospital at Kaponga, Mount View and Avon. Retired in 1978.

Interview with Mrs Hopkins (nee Bilkey) 8 March 1998. Began at Stratford in 1939 tutored by Matron Hunt and then to Wanganui 1941 for 2 years where there were Tutor Sisters. Describes her early training and nursing experiences at Stratford and Wanganui Hospitals and memories of visiting her mother in hospital as a child. Contracted T.B. and describes this. Returned to nursing after a family. (Tape clarity impaired at end of tape)

Tape 5 Side 1

Interview with Rosalie Styles. Rosalie took up nursing in Napier and Warkworth during World War Two before returning to Stratford in 1952. Over the next few years she worked in Stratford Public, Avon and Marire Hospitals before taking a position in Mount View Hospital, Eltham. In 1973 she returned to work in Avon and retired from nursing in 1978. (see also ARC2002-483)

Janice Bellamy 1964 - 1967 worked as a Kitchen Hand and then worked on the Wards at Stratford Hospital. Talks about the kitchen staff, menus, the equipment used to cook food, the hospital porters/orderlies and living in the Maids' Quarters. (tape ends abruptly)
