An oral history recorded November 1983 with Russell Standish, Su Urbahn Les Julian and Bert Stewart recalling the recovery of a canon from Taumata Park and the reasons for its burial during World War Two by the Home Guard and childhood memories of playing in the Park.

9.3 Les Julian remembers the canon and a drinking fountain in the Park dedicated to the memory of a Mr Kidd, drowned on a journey to Opunake and remebers his childhood in Eltham.
22.3 Bert Stewart was caretaker at Taumata Park for 12 years through the 1950 - 1960's. Recalls the bird cages in the Park and speculates that the drinking fountain was moved to the Eltham Cemetery. Recalls Harry Reynolds, sexton and caretaker and Cyril Maindonald, assistant to Bert.
