Description
Court Waireka, New Plymouth was an offshoot of Court Taranaki, established by the Ancient Order of Foresters friendly society. The first meeting was held on 17 April 1867 in the Foresters Hall on Brougham Street. The name Waireka may have been chosen to commemorate the Battle of Waireka fought on 28 March 1860. The Court grew to be the largest of the Forestry movement in New Zealand. It was dissolved in 2004.
The collection comprises minute books dated 1867-2004 (final officers meeting held on 1 March 2005). Minute books for the years 1871-1875, 1881-1890 and 1903-1914 are missing.
