Letter written in Maori from Mere Paea Te Hunga Kura to her brother Hapate Huiroa. The letter begins 'Kura Taupiri, April 12 1860'. The remenants of red sealing wax are evident on the facing page. A transcription was made by Wai Uatuku in September 1993 is available.

A postscript in A. S. Atkinson's hand has been added. This reads "A letter from a Maori school girl to her brother who was perhaps present at the fight at Waireka or Kaipono, New Plymouth on 28th March 1860
