The Riverlea School opened on the 1st February 1899 with 22 pupils, by the end of 1900 the school roll had risen to 67. The school house was the focus of community activities until a hall was built. In 1957 the decision was made to build a new three roomed school and this was opened on 15th February 1965. In April 1999 Riverlea School celebrated its centennial but a falling roll and a government policy of school closures saw Riverlea closed at the end of the school year 2003.
