Description
Oral history recording. Doris (Dorrie) Ivy Ellen Kohn (1908-2004) was the daughter of Thomas and Maria Bocock. Born in Opunake in 1908, she spent some of her childhood at Huinga, then moved to Winsor Road near Inglewood. Dorrie's father was killed when she was 12 and she left school to help her mother, later working at Sutherlands Book Shop. Dorrie also talks about her marriage to Leo Kohn and her involvement with basketball in Taranaki. An interest in local body politics saw her elected as the first woman councillor and she was awarded a Queen's Service Medal in 1976.
