Oral history. Born 1911 in Halifax, England Jessie was 7 years old when she came with her parents to Inglewood. Her father was a policeman there for 28 years.

Family information - Father was a policeman, serving in Wellington, Levin before arriving in Inglewood 1915. Talks of youth work, Inglewood doctors, Marinoto Hospital, Mr P. G. Nops. Describes her own education, training as a teacher at Auckland Training College and teaching at Inglewood School and Ratapiko, Tariki, Waitariki, Egmont Village schools.

I started school in 1954, Jessie Longbottom was my first teacher, I remember her as kind, and with lovey straight grey hair just below the ears, also remember her garden and mowing her lawns
