Description
First formed in 1853, the Taranaki Agricultural Society went into recess and reformed again in November 1858. Over the years the name of the society has changed, and at times going under one name while being audited under another.
The object of the Society was to promote the development of natural resources of the province with reference to agriculture, horticulture and similar branches of the industry. This included stock and produce shows, ploughing competitions etc. The Society owned land and show buildings in New Plymouth and a show ground at Waiwakaiho.
The collection comprises of minute books 1879 - 1983. A membership roll 1929 - 1930. Account books 1926 - 1979. Specifications and plans for building New Plymouth Race Course, 1977.
