Description
Established by 'a meeting of gentlemen' at Mr A. King's Rooms on the 8th of June 1853, the aim of the organization was to have "a reading room open to members daily and on Monday evenings music and singing from 7 to 9 and from 9 to 11 whist and chess". The club was wound up on the 22nd June 1857.
A second New Plymouth Club was established in August 1908. (Source: Tullett)
