Tape 1 Side 1:

Born Auckland 1914.

Father had worked in the mines South Africa - died of miners tysis. No pensions. Mother was carrying Ken at the time. Tells how the family survived financially. Left school with no high school education. Talks about mother opening a business in New Plymouth 1930 while he was involved in a scheme for unemployed youth (depression). Met future wife and married in St Mary's Church, New Plymouth. Talks of the war. Took up old position with New Plymouth Sash and Door after the war and later the Taranaki Savings Bank as property inspector. Mentions community involvement such as Lodge, Jaycees, Lions, and Rotary etc. Talks of changes within New Plymouth.

Talks of his name - adopted two children. Talks of overseas trip to China. Considers women's role in life. Has visited Russia.

Tape 2 Side 1:

Talks of moving to Molly Ryan Trust - describes facilities and advantages. Mentions Bingham House, where his mother lived. Recalls various aspects of New Plymouth life.
