b. 1929, Stratford. Born into a farming family in the Aotuhia - milking 20 - 30 cows by hand. Talks of childhood memories - radios with batteries that were recharged in Stratford. Left school at 14 - during the war years. Talks of the changes - no longer isolated when phones were installed. Talks of life in the back blocks.
