b 1910, Wellington. Talks of father who served in South Africa before emigrating to New Zealand. Can recall the beginning of WWI. Talks of various buildings and businesses in New Plymouth including Sash & Door, Henry Browns etc. Also mentions Wilkinson's Castle, Chapman Taylor, Chew Chong etc.
Side 2:
Talks of Ron Carrier committing suicide. Also speaks of other people such as John B Richards, Ernest Pickles, Myra Wilson. Dr Bill Gordon, Clem Thomas etc. Talks of his service in the army. Saw active service in Italy was wounded and transferred to counter intelligence.
Side 3:
Talks of problem with marriage in Italy. Arrived back in Eltham and married and had two sons. Talks of developing his business. Tells how he acquired the flags of 152 nations. Served on the Taranaki Harbour's Board 25 years. Talks of the 'Think Big Projects' - Motunui etc. Started the Probus Club - describes the waiting lists.
