Oral history. Born in 1906, New Plymouth. Prominent sportsman, competed overseas with the javelin and won a gold medal at the British Empire Games in Vancouver, Canada, in 1930. Died at New Plymouth in May 2003 aged 96.

b 1906, New Plymouth. Talks of childhood and siblings. Went to school in Hawera, trained as a sign writer. Became interested in sport - particularly the javelin. Talks of championships won and going to the 1930 Commonwealth Games and the Olympics 1935. Was still a champion at 43 years of age.

Joined the Home Service and served 2 1/2 years at PT instructor, Trentham. Went to the 1950 Commonwealth Games. Talks of his children and family. Also of his personal life.
