Description
A letter dated 14 September 1858 from Takerei to Hare (H Hawke, Native Secretary) regarding disturbances to the mail service between Mokau and New Plymouth. In the second letter, Hare (Hawke) acknowledges the receipt of the previous letter. This is presumably a copy of the letter sent. The paper on which the original (Takerei) letter was written has been folded and addresses to 'Ki a Hare, Native Sectrary, Taranaki'. It bears a New Plymouth postmark and was sealed with red wax.

Part 1
1) A sheet of paper on which there are two letters. In one Takerei of Mokau writes to Hare (H Hawke) about disturbances to the mail service between Mokau and New Plymouth. In the second letter, Hare (Hawke) acknowledges the receipt of the previous letter. This is presumably a copy of the letter sent. The paper on which the original (Takerei) letter was written has been folded and addresses to 'Ki a Hare, Native Sectrary, Taranaki'. It bears a New Plymouth postmark and was sealed with red wax.
2) A letter dated 1990 from Jim Skilling enclosing photocopies of the above letters and offering them to the Taranaki Museum.
3) The original information sheet on which the letter arrived at the Museum with information supplied by Jim Skilling.
4) A photocopy of the letters and postmark.
5) A transcription of the letters made by Wai Uatoki Sept 1993.
6) A translation from Maori to English.
