Description
Oral history. Born 1910 in Wellington, her father worked in the Post Office. She attended school at Masterton, Hastings, Shannon, Palmerston North, Levin. Trained as a commercial student at Palmerston North Commercial College, worked at the Shannon Dairy Co office, then in Eltham where her family lived. She was interested in sports such as swimming, tennis, golf, basketball, golf and cycled with her friend to Wellington. Married Darcy, a farmer on the family farm at Rawhitiroa, and they shared the house with Darcy's widowed father for the first couple of years. She talks about life on the farm, in the Eltham district, war work and so on. After leaving the farm they continued their interests such as golf, bowls and gardening. Her mother was Nga Puhi and her daughter-in-law, Betty, was Te Tuna.
Dallas's mother's parents had lived in Pompallier House which the family initially offered to the Catholic Church. After they refused, the house was then sold to the Government.
