Description
The 57th Regiment of the British Army was stationed at New Plymouth from 1861 to 1865. The Garrison was located on Marsland Hill, some Officers and Soldiers were billeted within the town of New Plymouth.
The records include defaulters' books (July 1863-March 1865); letterbook (November 1863-March 1865); order books (November 1860-July 1864); quartermaster's letterbook (August 1863-May 1865).
The information from these books was used to form the Taranaki Index of Names, a card index of Taranaki Families.
